Addalu Tuttle

September 25, 1933 — August 18, 2014

Addalu “Lu” Tuttle, 80, of Goode, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2014. She passed away peacefully in her home.

Born September 25, 1933 in Wycliffe Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Emory McDaniel and Carrie Standt McDaniel. She lived many places through her married life but considered Florida to be her home. She moved to the Lynchurg area in 2009 to live with her daughter. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Lu was a wife and homemaker for the first half of her life, then after the tragic loss of her husband in 1982, she returned to school to complete accounting courses as a means of providing for herself. She continued to work in the area of accounting for the next 25 years, until she retired in 2008 to spend more time with her children and grandchildren. She filled her final years in life with ministering to others by knitting prayer shawls for the terminally ill and hats for cancer patients, becoming active in her Sunday school class and enjoying fellowship with the women in her Tuesday morning bible study. She loved life and never gave up hope of recovering from her illness.

Lu is survived by her children, three sons, Keith Allen Tuttle and his wife Dorthenia of Abu Daubi, David James Tuttle and his wife Gina of Louisiana, and Brian Richard Tuttle of Florida; four daughters, Sharon Tuttle Kelly of California, Diana Lynn Howard and her husband Alva of Florida, Cheryl Ann Tuttle of Florida, and Michelle Louise Van Alstine and her husband Matt of Goode, Virginia; one daughter in law, Merja Koskinen of Finland, 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, George Russell Tuttle, one son, Gary Arthur Tuttle, and one grandson, Charles Emory Van Alstine. Two brothers, James McDaniel and Kenneth McDaniel and two sisters, Doris Narusch and Wilma Stang, also precede her in death.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, August 22, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg and 11 am to 12 noon Saturday. A celebration of Addalu’s life will be conducted 12 PM, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will be private.
