Adele Smith Johnson

Adele was born July 1, 1920 in Waynesboro, VA, the only daughter of noted artist, Charles William Smith and Nora Gardner Smith. Adele graduated from Collegiate School in Richmond and Bennington College in VT. 

Adele was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Elmer Lee Johnson and daughter, Robin Johnson Davenport; she leaves one daughter, Karen Johnson Loving of Culpeper, VA, three grandsons, Lunsford L Loving III and William F Loving, Sr of Richmond, VA and Daniel Denby Davenport III of Atlanta, GA; and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Adele was a very creative artist; from teaching art to needlepoint, building furniture, dressmaking and gorgeous knitting. Adele was a gourmet cook and lover of animals. She lived at Westminster Canterbury for a number of years and was loved by the staff. She will be missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, December 2, 2011 at Westminster-Canterbury with Chaplain Jeffrey Liddy officiating. Interment following at St. Paul\"™s Episcopal Church Columbarium, 1:00 pm, with Rev. Todd Vie officiating. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, 434-237-9424.
