Alan B Carter

Alan Beverly Carter, 82, of Bedford passed away on July 24, 2018. He was born in Bedford, Co. on January 27, 1936. He is the son of the late John A. Carter and Lucy Beadie Orange Carter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hobart S. Carter and John “Willy” Carter; one sister, Margie L. Johnson. Alan was a fun loving gentleman. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Alan was known for being a prankster. He always enjoyed making you smile and he tried his best to follow with laughter. He also enjoyed doing yard work; going to Hardee’s to start the day off with friends. He loved to smile and lived life to the fullest.

 

Alan was a former member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Bedford Coca-Cola Bottling company with over 20 years’ service. After retirement Alan started working for Carder Tharp Funeral Home now Tharp Funeral home as a funeral assistant. He was a wonderful addition to the funeral home and applied strong work ethics and compassion to so many during the loss of a family member. Alan was loved by so many and will be missed by all that knew him.

Alan is survived by his loving wife, Shelby Mills Carter; four children, Gregory Scott Carter, Alana Denise Carter, Stephen Lynn Wade and Steven Alan Carter; three grandchildren, Kenley Carter, Ellie Carter and Jackson Carter; siblings, Charles A. Carter and Amanda Becky Carter; also numerous nieces, nephews and so many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Alan’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford.
