Alberta Marie (Meyer) Ickes

Alberta Marie (Meyer) Ickes, 99, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025.

She was born on December 5, 1925, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, to the late Francis C. and Mary H- Meyer. On July 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Hubert F. Ickes. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure, raising two sons: Frederick, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Timothy, born in Kingston, New York.

Alberta was a proud graduate of St. Mary's High School in McKees Rocks and later earned her degree from Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Throughout the years, she and her family lived and worked in various cities including Pittsburgh, PA; Massillon, Canton, and Alliance, OH; Endicott, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie, NY; before settling into retirement in Lynchburg, VA in 1993.

She is survived by her two sons, Frederick Kenneth Ickes and his wife Claire Ringwood Ickes of Lynchburg. VA, and Timothy Hubert Ickes and his wife Rachael Bercey of Manchaca, TX; three grandchildren, Colin Ickes (Rachel Best) of Knoxville, TN, Andrew Ickes (Caitlin Miller Ickes) of Harrisonburg, VA, and Meghan Ickes (Harrison Muse) of Raleigh, NC; beloved nieces and nephews; and a dear friend of over 60 years, Dorla Powers

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Hubert Frederick Ickes.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Lynchburg, Virginia, at a later date.
