Alease T. Harlow, 88, of Bedford passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the Elks National Home where she had resided for the last eight years. Born October 21, 1921 in Concord, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Charles McFarland Torrence, Sr. and Anna Tweedy Torrence. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Mayo C. Harlow; one son, Mayo Carrington Harlow, III; four brothers, Pate, Jimmy, Emmitt, and John Torrence; six sisters, Evelyn T. Clark, Madeline T. Jones, Helen T. Heery, Marion T. Evans, Sarah T. \"Peg\" Torrence and Nancy T. Long. Alease was a long time member of Bedford Baptist Church. She was a strong supporter of Bedford through both volunteer work and charitable giving. In 2006, Alease received the Bedford Community Health Award for her generous contributions to the foundation and to numerous organizations within the Bedford area. She believed in volunteering and giving back to the community and did so throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by a devoted daughter-in-law, Catherine C. Harlow of Richmond; one granddaughter, Robyn W. Moorhead and her husband, Robert of Richmond; three great-grandsons, Bobby, Brett and Andrew all of Richmond; one brother, R.B. \"Dick\" Torrence of Lynchburg; numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Betty and Rucker Inge of Bedford for their friendship and dedication to Mrs. Harlow and to the Elks National Home Special Care Staff for their loving care and concern throughout Aleases\"™ residence at the home.
