Alexander Frederick John, 53, of Lynchburg departed this life Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Debra Lynn John, his devoted wife of 27 years. Alex was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church, and a long-time employee of Grand Home Furnishings.
In addition to his wife, Alex is survived by his brother, Douglas Barr John, Jr. and his wife Lee of Forest. He is also survived by a niece Ashlyn Schaub and her husband Chad of Forest and a nephew, Austin John of Forest – as well as numerous other family members and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Gypsy Floyd John.
Alex was an avid photographer, sports enthusiast, writer, and lover of all things artistic. He possessed a devout faith, a generous nature, and was an inspiration to his family and many dear friends, all of whom miss him greatly. Considered by many to be one of the most genuine and friendliest persons you would ever meet, Alex possessed a pure sense of humor. His smile, which was contagious to anyone in his presence, was perhaps his single greatest characteristic: the sign of a consistently warm demeanor that was a welcome respite for so many who came in contact with him. He maintained his faith and devotion until the end.
A service of remembrance will be conducted at Timberlake United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lynne Alley-Grant and Pastor Mark Wilkerson, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery with Rev. Vernie Barrow officiating.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, (434) 237-9424, who will receive visitors from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
