Alice Anne Proffitt, 73, of Madison Heights, VA, died Friday, December 09, 2011. She was the wife of Robert Lewis Proffitt Jr., for 54 years
Born Sunday, September 04, 1938 in Lynchburg, Anne was the daughter of the late Annie Louise Enoch Bryant and William Bryant.
In addition to her husband, Anne she is survived by her four children: Dana Carol Proffitt and Thomas Carter, of Madison Heights, Robert Owen Proffitt and his wife, Glenda, of Madison Heights, Karen Proffitt Clay and her husband, Dean, of Bedford, and Anita Proffitt Millet and her husband, Chris, of Adrian, MI; eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Anne loved working with children. She got started later in life than most at pursuing her teaching career. She got her degree from Longwood College and later her Master of Education from Lynchburg College. Fulfilling her dreams, she taught fourth grade for 22 years in Amherst County Schools. In her spare time Anne loved crafts, genealogy, knitting, crocheting, and traveling. She and Robert visited all 50 states. She also loved animals, especially cats. Being a woman of strong faith she loved her church, Thomas Road Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, and at other times at the residence. A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 12, 2011 in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
