Alice Roberts Donaldson, 60, of Lynchburg, died peacefully on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at home with her family. Alice is survived by her husband of 27 years, Grady W. Donaldson, Jr.
Born on June 18, 1955, Alice was a daughter of Elizabeth “Betty” Clark Roberts and the late William M. Roberts, Jr. Alice attended Lynchburg City Schools, and she graduated from E. C. Glass High School, St. Mary’s College in Raleigh, and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She also received a Master of Education in Counselor Education degree from Lynchburg College. Alice worked for Crossroads House, Lynchburg Youth Services, and Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg for many years. Most recently, Alice worked at Market at Main, where she had the opportunity to see many of her friends. Alice loved summer vacations in Virginia Beach and Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, Alice leaves behind to cherish her memory two children, William “Hank” Henry Donaldson of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Alice “Ali” Clark Donaldson of Lynchburg, Virginia; two sisters, Anne Roberts McKenna (Sandy) of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Elizabeth “Betsy” Clark Roberts of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her niece, Kathryn “Kate” McKenna Branch (Michael) of Shanghai, China; and many loving first cousins.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the home of Anne and Sandy McKenna, 3320 Woodridge Place, Lynchburg, Virginia. A memorial service will take place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Clay Street, Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Diane E. Vie and the Rev. Todd M. Vie officiating.
