Allan E. Augustine, 65, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday October 22, 2015.
He is survived by cherished and devoted wife of 42 years, Rhonda Augustine (Rhonda’s K-9 Barber Shop).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Augustine. He is survived by his father Major Augustine, two sisters, a brother, six nieces and nine nephews, many great nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and other loving family.
Born in Wisconsin, he was raised on a dairy farm. Graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BA in Mass Communications in 1972. He worked in the Milwaukee area radio market before moving to Lynchburg in 1979. He was news director for WLVA radio and was a popular and successful morning personality, winning a billboard award for best news personality in a small market. Later he worked at WDBJ-TV- Roanoke, from 1982–1987 as Bureau Chief for Lynchburg area news. Later Allan managed local radio stations Z-100 and VJAMS. Allan was versatile, creative and flexible in his work which he immensely enjoyed. The last fifteen years he’s worked at Dodson Pest Control as Corporate Marketing and Advertising Manager.
He was funny, kind, loving and compassionate about things he loved. His wife, all Wisconsin sports-especially The Green Bay Packers- basketball, biking, his beloved collies and an avid horse racing enthusiast. He belongs to the Collie Club of America since 1974. Current member of the National Horses Championship Tour – daily racing form – Past Member of Dog Owners Training Club of Lynchburg, as well as the James River Kennel Club.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday October 26, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Allan’s Life will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.
