Allen Carroll Brooks Sr.

Allen Carroll “A.C.” Brooks Sr., 68, of Lynchburg, Va., passed away peacefully at his home Friday, March 17, 2017. He was the loving husband and high school sweetheart of Mary Beth (Toby) Brooks.

A.C. was born July 14, 1948, in Lynchburg, Va., a son of the late Reva T. Williams and loving stepfather Bill Williams. He was retired from NCR and Charity Games where he worked a Sales Account Manager. He grew up in College Hill Baptist Church and later was a member of First Baptist Church. A.C. was the life of the party and loved to make everyone laugh. He enjoyed playing golf with family and friends and was usually working a crossword puzzle throughout his day. He had a deep respect for his country and was a member of Moose Lodge 715, the American Legion and proud associate member of the Marine Corps League.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Allen C. (Cary) Brooks, Jr. (Jennifer) of Lynchburg, Va. and Lori E. Brooks (Dave) of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Coraline Brooks and Chelsea Lisbeth Brooks; one great-grandchild, RJ Bowers III; nephews, Christopher and Bobby Brooks and their families; nieces, Kathryn Saine, Mary-Lyons Ickert and their families; and his best four-legged pals Daisy and Ginny.

In addition to his mother and step-father, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Billy Brooks and Gilbert Brooks and loving family friend Mary Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of A.C.’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Paul Dakin and Dr. James A. Weaver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice, Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center, Lynchburg, or First Baptist Church, Lynchburg. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Headley, Dr. John Halpin and the Centra Hospice team for their care and compassion on this difficult journey. And a special heartfelt thanks to his wonderful Centra Hospice nurse Rebecca.
