Alonza (Lonnie) Philpott

Alonza (Lonnie) Philpott, 91, passed away on January 28, 2025. He was born on March 8, 1933 in Roanoke, VA. He is the son of the late John P. Philpott and Elsie May Oliver Philpott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Patricia; their infant twins, Jeffrey Wayne and Jennifer Ann Philpott and by his 13 brothers and sisters.

Lonnie is survived by his two daughters, Karen Pruitt (Martin) and Sharon Philpott (Stephen Finn), three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lonnie proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love of the mountains and outdoors with his family. In 1989 he hiked the Appalachian Trail as a thru-hiker and received the 2,000-miler designation.

The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their assistance and care during his illness. His daughters will hold a private family service for their father.
