Althea Snead Throckmorton, 85, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, October 31, 2015. Born October 24, 1930, in Halifax; she was a daughter of the late Charlie Roy Snead and Lanie Newton Snead.

She is survived by a son, Danny L. Throckmorton and wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Marc Cirlot and wife, Ellen, Lance Throckmorton and fiancée, Tasha Dodd; great-grandchildren, Ashley Cirlot and Morgan Cirlot; and a brother, George Snead. Althea is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Norman Throckmorton and her son, Norman S. Throckmorton.

The family also wishes to express their profound appreciation to Althea’s caregivers, Laverne Ashwell, Deborah Dawson, and Yvonne Thacker.

Althea was retired from Lynchburg City Schools. She will be remembered as a long-time member of Beulah Baptist Church. She was past-president of the Scottish Rite Women’s Club, and a former member of the Eastern Star. Althea also enjoyed her volunteer work with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16, Lynchburg, where she was a past president,  she also served as the past state chaplain for Virginia. She was also an active member of the DAR and the 8 & 40 Club.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Friday, November 6, 2015, in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Rev. Dr. Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 5, 2015, from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
