Alton Wayne “Buddy” Stoots, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2015. He was the loving husband of Barbara Wheeling Stoots for 61 years.
Buddy was born on July 5, 1930 in Austinville, VA, to the late John and Emily Kane Stoots. He retired from G.E. after working as a Planner for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Tracy Yancey and her husband Troy, of Charlottesville, VA, three grandchildren: Erika, Lauren and Andrew; eight nieces: Kate Simmons, Patsy Gray, Patricia Croupe, Bonnie Sparks, Susan Scott, Joyce Munsey, Ginger Johnson and Aleta Shaffer; three nephews: Eddie Stoots, Danny Reynolds and Johnny Koontz. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Buddy was member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea, and was a member of the American Legion Post 274.
He was a member of Edward Eubank Masonic Lodge since 1958, and a member of Scottish Rite.
He loved to read, listen to gospel music and was an avid sports fan.
A Celebration of Buddy’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Rev. Bart Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Piedmont.
