Alvin Davis Goyne, 87, of Huddleston passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016. Alvin was born on June 3, 1928 in Chesterfield County. He was the son of the late Harry John Goyne and Catherine Layman Goyne. In addition to his parents Alvin was preceded in death by brothers, Harry, William and Jerry Goyne also a sister, Marjorie Rickman. Alvin served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a retiree with 32 years of service with Dominion Virginia Power. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Camp commander of the Chester Station Sons of Confederate Veterans, a 32 degree Master Mason and a Past Master of Bedford Masonic lodge 244 and current member of Widows Son Lodge in Roanoke Rapids, NC Lodge 519. Alvin was also a dedicated member and deacon of Morgan’s Baptist Church. Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Edith “Edie” Merritt Goyne; two sons, John Davis Goyne, Daniel Merritt Goyne and his wife, Lynn; four grandchildren, Christina, Harrison, Jackie and Sara; one sister, Catherine Douglas also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.For those wishing to make memorial contributions in Alvin’s memory please consider, Wounded Warriors or the Widows Son Lodge in Roanoke Rapids, NC lodge 519. A memorial service and celebration of Alvin’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rick Mallory and Rev. Steve Parker officiating.
