Alvin Lynn Rucker, 62, of Madison Heights went to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2023, exchanging his broken earthly body for an upgraded Heavenly body with no more pain. He was the loving husband of his high school sweetheart, Deborah Mason Rucker, “Debbie”, for 42 years and the treasured Daddy of only one, Jessica Lynne Rucker Johnson (Brad), of Appomattox, VA.
Alvin was born on September 25, 1960, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Clyde Talmadge Rucker and Shelby Thompson Rucker. He was preceded in death by his loving brother, Printice Edward Rucker.
He loved, supported and served his extended church family, as a faithful deacon, usher, mentor, and brother in Christ, at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.
Alvin worked for the City of Lynchburg as the Superintendent of Lynchburg Water Resource Facility giving 42 years of service, with plans to retire in November.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his mother-in-love, Gladys Gunter Mason, brother-in-law Stephen Mason (Kay), and sister-in-law Beth Rucker, Uncle Thomas Creasy, loving nieces and nephews: Christine Pierce (Derrick), Alex Mason (Andrea), Kim German (Jeremy), Ammie Moore (Nick), Kaytee Rucker, close family Don and Shirley Jordan, extended family with several cousins, and many, very special great nieces and nephews, and his adorable, spoiled cat, Skittles.
Alvin was loved by all and never met a stranger. Everyone that knew him, was fair game for his good natured teasing, pranks and jokes and were often subject to a good belly laugh. A jack of all trades, he was more than willing to share a random fact or two about a thing or two. His faith and determination got him up and walking every time life knocked him down even when it took his feet out from under him.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church in Madison Heights.
A Celebration of Alvin’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2023, at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Derik Hamby officiating. A fellowship and meal will immediately follow the service at the church.
Due to allergies, in lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Kingdom Builders, c/o: Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, 4246 S Amherst Hwy, Madison Heights, VA 24572.
