 Ambrose Rucker Woodroof, 99, of Lynchburg, Virginia, formerly of Richmond and Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, died Monday, September 26, 2011. He was the son of the late Ambrose Pleasants Woodroof and Emily Bright Brockenbrough Woodroof of Amherst County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, the former Florence Virginia King Woodroof. He is survived by a daughter, Rosanne Lynette Woodroof of Warrenton, Virginia and two sons, David King Woodroof of Portsmouth, Virginia and Dr. Kerry Colston Woodroof, his daughter in law, Constance Clarke Woodroof and one granddaughter, Cara Leigh Woodroof, all of Bedford County, Virginia.

 Mr. Woodroof was born in Amherst County, Virginia where he graduated valedictorian of his class at Pleasant View High School. He was educated at Lynchburg College and the University of Virginia. A longtime Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Virginia, he served several governors and specialized in litigation before the Virginia Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the Richmond and Virginia State Bar Associations, respectively. Mr. Woodroof was a longtime member and former Governor of the Jamestowne Society as well as a member and former deacon of Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. He was also a World War II Army veteran.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Academy of Fine Arts capital campaign, 600 Main St, Lynchburg, VA 24504 in the name of his beloved great aunt, Ella Woodroof Dillard.
