Angeline Costan Coyle, age 106, died on Saturday, March 7. She was the widow of Fred A. Coyle, who predeceased her. Born August 23, 1908, she was the first child of the late Arthur George and Carrie Burch Costan, and also outlived her six siblings; sisters, Helen Costan, Olga Griffith, Marie Clark, and Kalypso Furniss; and brothers, Arthur A. Costan and George A. Costan.
Having no children of her own, she took a great interest in the children of her brothers and sisters and their children and grandchildren, as each generation came along. One nephew, Edward Furniss, predeceased her. The surviving first generation nieces and nephews are Winston “Whit” Clark, Georgellen “Georgie” Costan Easter, Arthur “Art” Costan, James William “Butch” Furniss, and Betty Lee Furniss Maddox, all of Lynchburg; Carolyn Clark Doyle, Roanoke; Tamsin Griffith Taylor and James “Jay” Costan, Washington, D.C.; Alice “Boo” Costan Ferguson, Dallas; Ann Marie Costan Vinson, Charlottesville; Harry Arthur Costan, St. Johns, Michigan; and Renee Costan, Lynnwood, Washington.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Carrington for meeting Angeline’s medical, as well as, social needs for many years, and also thanks to Centra Hospice for their end-of-life care that gave comfort to her and all of us who cared about her. A special thank you also goes to Lin Vitale, parish nurse of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, whose friendship and companionship were as valuable as her medical insights.
A graveside service for interment of Angeline’s ashes will be held and announced later in the spring. Condolences may be sent to Georgie Easter, 3210 Downing Drive, Lynchburg 24503, or to Tharp Funeral Home, www.obituaries.tharpfuneralhome.com.
