Ann Campbell Howard, 87, of Lynchburg died Sunday May 17, 2015. She was the wife of the late Dr. Lawrence Max Howard, Jr.

Ann died as she lived, with hope and joy and in the presence of family and friends whom she loved. Ann was a remarkable mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, who did not know a stranger. Her sparkling eyes, warm smile and quick wit will be missed.

Ann was born on August 30, 1927 in Austin, Texas, a daughter of the late Clark C. Campbell and the late Flora Williams Campbell   Ann graduated from the University of Texas and then worked for Braniff Airways. After marrying Max Howard and moving to Lynchburg, she raised her four children and was an active volunteer in the community. Ann also loved her time at Seven Hills School where she was a teacher, dean and board member. She was named Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) Outstanding Teacher of the Year. She also served on the boards of the Junior League, the Colonial Dames, the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army, Family Services, the Sheltered Workshop, the Governor’s Commission for the Handicapped, and Lynchburg Historical Foundation. Ann was also a Past President of the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine Alliance and was a CASA volunteer. She remained an active volunteer at Westminster Canterbury, most recently serving as a hospice volunteer.

Ann is survived by her children Becky Howard (Judi Day) of Denver, CO, Lawrence Max Howard III of Virginia Beach, VA, Lucie Howard Moore (Geoff Moore) of Newport Beach, CA, K. Campbell Howard (Debbie Howard) of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren Max Howard, Brandon Howard, Ryan Howard, Taylor Moore, Walker Moore Osterberg, Campbell Moore, Peyton Howard, and Lucie Howard; great grandchildren, Harper Howard and Nolan Howard.

A Celebration of Ann’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 10, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, with a reception following at the church.
