Ann Cyrus Sullivan of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

She was born on February 1, 1928 in Appomattox County, the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Mann Cyrus and Wince Edward Cyrus. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Harvel J.D. Sullivan, Sr. and her son, J.D. Sullivan, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy S. Thompson and husband Rick of Lynchburg, Brenda S. Kelley and husband, Jim of Richmond, Charlotte Sullivan of Forest, and grandchildren Stan Pearson of Lynchburg, David Pearson and wife Robin of Concord, Leanne Grassano and husband Jamie of Concord, Preston Watts and wife Mia of Glen Allen, Candon Stanley and husband Ben of Goode, Courtney Roach and husband Thomas of Concord, Carly Melton and husband Chad of Forest, and ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her sisters, Nora Stinnette, Zelma Moses, Anther Litchford, Reva Lair, Catherine Bryant, twin sisters, Rachel Rowland and Ruth Hawksworth and a brother, Porter Cyrus.

Ann was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School and attended Central Virginia Community College. She was a devoted wife and home maker hosting many happy holiday gatherings for her family. Ann was a devoted and loving mother to her special needs daughter and dedicated her life to her care. She was office manager for a Lynchburg Optometric Center and held a managerial position with Social Services of Lynchburg with a heart for helping people. She was instrumental in starting the ARC Association which serves the intellectually challenged and their families, and the Brownies organization for intellectually challenged children in Lynchburg, as well as volunteering for Big Brothers and Sisters.

Ann was a lifelong member of The Church of God of Prophecy having served for a time as a Sunday school teacher. She shared a special relationship with Pastor Gary Vernon who had grown up with her son J.D., and being in a gospel band together spent many happy times in her home. Her quick mind and dry wit made lasting impressions as she had an ability to put things into perspective. The memories she made will be cherished by family and friends alike.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to caregivers Cheryl Bennett, Andrea Stanley, and Kathy Martin and the wonderful staff at The Summit during her stay. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Dr. Carl Moore, Cardiovascular Associates for the excellent care Ann received.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, March21, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A service celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 22 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with burial immediately following at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
