Anna Burnett Elcan

Anna B. Elcan, 95, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, August 31, 2013. She was the wife of the late George Hannah Elcan, Jr.

Anna was born August 19, 1918 in Floyd County. She was the daughter of the late Eddie Samuel Burnett and the late Iturea Weeks Burnett. Anna graduated from Radford University and also completed graduate work at both Cornell and Virginia Tech. She then worked as a school teacher in Floyd County and Boonsboro High School where she taught Home Economics and Chemistry. Anna then worked and retired as an Extension Agent for the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service in Prince Edward and Campbell Counties. Anna served as both Elder Emeritus and Deacon Emeritus at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by: a daughter Anne Elcan Simpson of Altavista; a son George Hannah Elcan, III and his wife Stephanie Beale Elcan of Lynchburg; five grandchildren: Elizabeth Judd Calder and her husband Robert of Lynchburg, Hannah Margaret Judd of Forest, Adam Elcan of Bellingham, WA, Sarah Elcan of Seattle, WA, and Rebecca Elcan of Raleigh, NC, one brother-in-law O. Wesley Larson of Stow, MA, five nieces, two nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by; three sisters, one brother, two sister-in-laws and two brothers-in-laws.

A funeral services will be held at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September 4, 2013 with Pastor Bart Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, Va., 24502 or to a charity of your choice.
