Anna Peacock Dulany was born January 12, 1927, the only child of Henry Chamberlaine Dulany of Broad Run, Virginia, and Anna May Peacock Dulany of Lexington, North Carolina.
She died July 1, 2015. She was predeceased by her former husbands, Donald C. Devening of Shelbyville, Indiana, and by G. Keith Lyons of Manassas, Virginia.
She is survived by her four sons, Donald Clayton Devening, Jr., Henry Chamberlaine Devening, Robert Grafton Devening and Scott Dulany Devening, her daughters-in-law, Martha, Wendy, Missy and Janet, and six granddaughters, Chloe, Chelsea, Dulany, Andrea, Erin, and Olivia, and one grandson, Drew.
Ann graduated from Mary Washington College in 1949 where she was editor of the college newspaper. She remained active in the MWC alumni association throughout her life. After moving from Louisiana with her four sons to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1963, she began work in various capacities at the University of Virginia. Finding she had a gift for counseling others, she obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University. She retired from UVa as Director of Student Affairs for the School of Nursing. After leaving Charlottesville, she moved to her beloved family home, Inverness, in Fauquier County and concluded her work career with the Social Security Administration. She moved to Manassas upon her marriage to Keith Lyons in 1989. She subsequently moved to Lynchburg, Va to be closer to family.
Anna was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was devoted to her family and friends. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her boys, their wives, and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted on August 29, at 1:00 pm, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Manasas, Virginia, followed by inurnment at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Haymarket, Virginia.
