Mrs. Anne Bullock Flickinger of 1833 Hillsdale Road passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
Mrs. Flickinger was born in Washington, DC on June 30, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles Howard Bullock and the late Maie Dodd Bullock. She was a graduate of The Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington, DC and attended Saint Joseph\"™s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
She was a member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church and active in the School Board and Parents Teacher Organization during her children\"™s years of attendance at Holy Cross School.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Burr Flickinger; three children and nine grandchildren: Margaret Elizabeth Case and her husband Dr. David Thomas Case, of Lynchburg, Va., and their children Thomas, Ashley, and Sara; Katherine Anne Knopp and her husband Gregory Van Hise Knopp, of Alexandria, Va., and their children Laura and Michael; and Dr. Gregory Charles Flickinger and his wife Nirmala Josephine Flickinger, of Indiatlantic, Fl., and their children Anna, Josephine, Ryan, and Thomas.
She is also survived by twin nephews: Brian Dodd Murphy and his wife Frances Sinkler Murphy of New York City, NY, and their children Brian, Kittredge, and Chanler; and Dr. Dennis Mark Murphy and his wife Holly Mathews Murphy of Ormond Beach, Fl., and their children Jack and Sara.
Mrs. Flickinger is also survived by a sister, Barbara F. Bullock of Charlottesville Virginia.
Mrs. Flickinger was pre-deceased by a sister, Betty Bullock Murphy in 1953 and a son, Michael Dodd Flickinger in 1992.
Anne lived a full life, loving and caring for others, and expressed her joy in hoping that she had made a difference. Her family will miss her selfless, loving nature, eternal optimism, and genuine compassion for all she came in contact with.
A Mass in celebration of Mrs. Flickinger\"™s life will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lynchburg, Va., on Friday, October 14, 2011, at 11:00AM.
Inurnment and a memorial service will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Holy Cross Joy Fund or a charity of your choice.
