Anne Cabell Giles passed away in Blackstone, Virginia on January 23, 2022, at the age of 91. She was born in Lynchburg, VA to Guy Cabell and Valentine Cabell, both deceased, and was married to Melvin G. Giles, Sr. for 48 years before his death. One of eight children, she grew up on Clifton Farm on the James River near Stonewall, VA, she graduated from Appomattox High School, and spent most of her life running Giles Store near Concord, VA. Anne was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Cabell Foundation, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and she was an active member of the community, working at voting polls, blood drives, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and other charities. Anne’s passions were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her beautiful flower gardens. She was dedicated to her community service, her close friendships, and her ever present interest in meeting new people everywhere she went.
She had one daughter, Carolyn Anne Giles, Appomattox, VA (deceased), and she is survived by her son, M. Glenn Giles, Jr. of Vienna, VA. She has seven grandchildren: Christopher Maxwell, Roanoke, VA; Adam Giles, Leesburg, VA; Whitney Maxwell, Charlotte, NC; Garrett Cabell Giles, Vienna, VA; Airman Robert Giles, Nellis Air Force Base, NV; Rachel Giles, Vienna, VA; and Annemarie Cabell Giles, Vienna, VA. She has five great grandchildren: Matthew Giles, Sutter Maxwell, Jethro Giles, Lane Maxwell, and Ellery Sullivan.
Visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr. in Lynchburg from 5 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, February 1st. A private graveside service will be held the following day at Spring Hill Cemetery for the family.
