Anne Derrick

d. March 27, 2018

Anne Patricia (Radle) Derrick of Hurt, Virginia died at home Tuesday, March 27th.   Formerly a 4th grade teacher at Altavista Elementary School, she was known as Mrs. Hergerton for many years, as Ms. Stanton for 2 years, then remarried in 2014 to become Mrs. Derrick.  She held a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Hollins University. Anne was known for her unique teaching practices which included playing guitar to students while they sang multiplication tables in the lunch line.  After becoming a stay at home mom, she was often approached by grown former students who still used her songs to recall their Math, Science and Social Studies lessons.  She loved music, was an avid reader, adored all her students, and prayed fervently.

She was the 4th and youngest child of Joseph Bernard Radle (deceased) and Anne Clare (Stanton) Radle.

She is survived by her husband Andrew Derrick, daughter Hannah Elizabeth Derrick, two sons Samuel Patrick Hergerton and Joseph Thomas Hergerton, brothers Joseph Radle of Lakewood, WA, Daniel Radle of Ridge, NY, and Stephen Radle of New Port Richey, FL.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2016, and chose to live out her days using natural healing protocols.
