Anne Stephens DeJarnette, 82, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Labor Day, September 1, 2014, at the Heritage Green facility. Anne lived in the Rustburg community for over 46 years.
Born in Rural Retreat, Virginia, she attended both Radford Women’s College and Lynchburg College, graduating with two Master’s Degrees. While at Radford, she met and married her husband of fifty years, the late Malcolm “Mac” DeJarnette.
She is survived by her son, Douglas DeJarnette and his wife, Pamela, of Tea, South Dakota; her daughter, Terrye Nissley and her husband, Jerry, of Alexandria, Virginia; her sister-in law, June Foster and her husband, Sidney, of Brookneal, Virginia; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Anne accepted Christ as her Savior and was involved her entire life in church ministries, including being a pianist, organist, and choir director. Anne’s overall lifestyle was best described as “active,” as she was continually involved in community projects and professional pursuits. She highly cherished her personal friendships and her growing family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg. A Celebration of Anne’s Life will take place on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger J. Roller officiating, followed by interment at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery adjacent to Rustburg Baptist Church.
