Anne Stevens Thaxton of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, surrounded by her family; an especially meaningful day as it was her parents’ anniversary. Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel Stevens and Annie Laurie Carson Stevens Duplin.

Anne graduated from Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNCG) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta Honorary Biology Society.  She was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church where she was the former Worship Chairman, Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, pianist for the Adult Sunday School class, in addition to serving on other committees of the church.  She was the former President of the Lynchburg Junior Woman’s Club, as well as the Ragged Robin Garden Club.  Anne retired as the Office Manager for Women’s Health Services of Central Virginia.

Anne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Charles E. Thaxton of Lynchburg; her son R. Jeffreys Thaxton (Lisa) of Evington; and her daughter Laura T. McCraw (Brent) of Lynchburg; six grandchildren: Kathryn “Katie” A. Thaxton, of Forest; Caroline C. McCraw and Elizabeth “Libba” A. McCraw of Lynchburg; Brian M. McCraw (Becki) of Alexandria, Ashlynn R. Buttram of Harrisonburg and J. Daniel Buttram of Evington; a niece Deborah Stevens Hamilton (Dale) of Christiansburg; a nephew David P. Stevens of Hayesville, NC; a great nephew Damon A. Stevens (Karen) of Arlington and a brother Robert S. Stevens, Jr. (Rosemary) of Hayesville.  She was preceded in death by a nephew Robert S. Stevens, III and a great nephew Robert Justin Stevens.

A Celebration of Anne’s life will be conducted at Court Street United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 with Reverends William Burleigh, C. Douglas Pillow and Patrick Pillow officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

She meant so much to so many and will be missed by all whose life she touched.
