Antony (Tony) Assheton Goodricke Young, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was the husband of Anne Louise Young for 39 years.
Tony was born on November 3, 1925, in Whangarei, New Zealand. He was the son of the late Miles Archibald Young and Marguerett Cattell Young.
In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his two sons, Michael (Cheryl), and Peter (Mary), Young as well as six grandchildren and two nieces, Melanie and Meredith.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by two sisters.
Tony graduated from Napier Boys High and then served in the New Zealand Fleet Air Arm before returning to the University of Dunedin where he studied Physical Therapy. He arrived in Lynchburg in 1949 becoming the area’s first Physical Therapist.
He was active in the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center and the Lions Club. Tony also enjoyed and participated in the Lynchburg Rugby League. He loved music, his computer, golfing, travelling and spending time with friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. A reception will follow at the church and the family will receive friends other times at the residence.
