"For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4: 6-7
Ardena went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was born on March 28, 1925, to Theodore and Vergie Robinson Thornhill. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined Bethany Baptist Church. In her early years she was a choir member, later a member of the usher board, and secretary of the Sunday School. She loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church and bible study, and was committed to visiting the sick and helping where ever she could. There was no hesitation on her part to give glory to God. She remained an active member until her health declined. She was also a member of the Gala Social Club for many years and served as treasurer for the group.
She graduated from Campbell County Training School. She married Marilyn Peyton Cabell. Out of that union came three children, Marietta, Claudette, and Maurice. Ardena worked at the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill for a number of years.
She finished her work career and retired from General Electric after 22 years.
Ardena was a very interesting lady who after retiring loved working in her yard, shopping, working word puzzles, visiting the sick and shut-in, and traveling. Out of all of her fun activities, she enjoyed most being a member of the Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. (CACL) which allowed her to fellowship with the senior group at New Vine Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Marietta Bush of Lynchburg, Va., Claudette Randall (Robert) Chesapeake, Va., and one son, Maurice Cabell (Joyce) Lynchburg, Va., one grandchild, Lakeisha Cabell, and one great grandchild, Jordan Maurice Cabell of Norfolk, Va., two sister-in laws, Arletta Harrison of Haines City, Florida, Gertrude Warrick of Lynchburg, Va., and one brother-in-law, Harry Cabell III (Melva) of Fort Washington, Md.; and nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:8
