Ardevella Edwards

Ardevella Snead Edwards earned her heavenly wings on Monday, April 24, 2023. She was born on Friday, January 15, 1937 to the late Armstead G. and Loueva H. Snead. She was proceeded in death by 6 brothers Herman, Armstead Jr., William, Nathaniel, Calvin and Roland Snead, and 5 sisters Bertha, Bernice, Olivia, Rebecca and Ellen.

She was a lifetime member of Holcomb Rock Baptist Church, 5184 Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg, VA. Ardevella was a member of the 20th Century Club and soloist for the Willing Gospel Singers. Some of her favorite songs were “How I Got Over”, and “Everyday Is A Day of Thanksgiving”. Two weeks before her passing, after not singing for over ten years because of illness, she started singing “Give Me That Old Time Religion” with a strong voice. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP, working with youth division for many years.

Ardevella was valedictorian of her class from the Susie B. Gibson High School, Bedford, VA in 1955. Everyone called her by her nickname “Ardie”. She was married to the late Samuel Edlo Edwards on June 28, 1957. From that union 2 children were born, Sheryl Denise and Stephen Edlo. She worked at Imperial Reading for many years, after which she became a caregiver for her late husband, her late brother Herman and his son Herman Jr. and her late grand-nephew Kevin Edwards, who affectionally called her “mama”.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Sher was a strong willed, outspoken woman, who never asked for help, even when she needed it.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Shery E. Elmore and Stephen Edlo Edwards (Shelia), two grandsons Kyle L. Edwards and Ryan O. Parrish, four great grandchildren, Mykiah and Ryan, Jr. Parrish, and Kyler L. and Kelan D. Edwards, one sister Rose Scott (Larry) of Lynchburg, VA., one brother Merwyn Snead (Jacqueline) of Charlotte, NC., four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She will be deeply missed and loved for the years to come.

A celebration of life will be held on 1:00 pm Saturday April 29, 2023 at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church with the Interment to follow at Springhill Cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday April 28, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home.
