October 27, 1930 — November 21, 2014

Aubrey Kenneth Creger, 84, of Lynchburg, died on Friday, November 21st, 2014, at his home with family at his side, after a short battle with cancer. Kenneth was born in Wytheville, Virginia to the late Thomas Jackson Creger, Sr. and Lillian Estelle Cline Creger on October 27th, 1930.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rita Mae Bradley Creger.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Jackson Creger, Jr. and Bernard Odell Creger, and Bernard’s wife, Jean Butterworth Creger.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Kenneth Bradley Creger of Lynchburg, Melanie Anne Creger of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, Ronald Devin Creger, and his wife, Karen Godsey Creger of Forest; his grandchildren, Melissa Reese Irvine, and her husband James M. Irvine of Forest; Cody Ray Creger and Josey Mae Creger of Dillon Montana; Aubrey McKennon Cutchins of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; Devin Delaney Creger of Forest; and a great-grandchild, Michael Scott Irvine of Forest. A sister-in-law, Elizabeth Creger; a nephew Thomas Jackson Creger III (Lynn); and two nieces Kathy Creger Miller (Dick), and Debbie Creger Vlahos (Gus).

Kenneth served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry, where he worked for 35 years, a member of Fairview Christian Church, and Woodmen of The World.

Our Father, and “Papa”, was a deeply admired man by his family and friends. He was a person known for his extreme kindness and helpfulness to his family and many friends. He was the man who people would call in their time of need, whether it was family, friends, or even a friend of a friend. He was the man, if something was broke, he would fix it, if you needed a ride, he would give it, if you needed an ear, he would lend it, and ask nothing in return. He always said, “Do something nice for someone every day”. Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson up until the time of his illness just a few months ago. He started his days at 5:30 a.m. at the Jamerson YMCA, followed by coffee and conversation at Graves Mill McDonald’s with “The McDonald’s Group”, which included some of his closest friends.

At his request there will be no funeral service. Family and friends of the family will be received at his residence. Please join his family and friends for a visitation at the McDonald’s on Graves Mill Rd. on Monday, December 1st at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. for a time of sharing stories and memories.

The family would like to thank The Summit and Centra Hospice for their care. We would also like to thank Wayne Lanham for his services in our father’s time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Condolences may be sent online at www.obituaries.tharpfuneralhome.com. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, 434-237-9424.
