Aubrey Lee Mason, 74, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2025. His passing leaves an enormous void in the hearts of family and friends, near and far.

Aubrey was born on May 11, 1950, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended school at E.C Glass High School, Ferrum College, and received his Bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Aubrey followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, starting his career as a financial advisor at Mason and Lee in 1972. He was a trusted guide and friend to his clients throughout his career, ending with his retirement from Baird.

Aubrey was a dutiful, loving, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and brother. Everyone who knew Aubrey appreciated his generosity, witty humor, willingness to share his time, availability to help others, and his attention to detail - especially when it came to preparing morning coffee for his loved ones.

Aubrey was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and in his youth, he enjoyed running, skiing, golf, and time outdoors. Later in life, the experiences that brought him the most joy were spending quality time with his family and friends, going to the movies, listening to loud music, and eating a steak every Sunday.

He traveled the world and shared this love for adventure with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He held a special place in his heart for his yearly trips to the island of Bermuda, starting in the 1980s and continuing to the present day. He was an active member of the Five 18 Family Services, formerly known as Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home. He loved tailgating for his alma mater and the Jets. He shared his love of all sports with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a dedicated and loyal husband. He was a natural caretaker, not only for his father, but for his wife, Sandi, his children, and grandchildren. He is loved by many and had deep friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was an excellent listener and confidante but often dispensed his wisdom with humor and charm. He was fond of saying, “there’s the advice you didn’t ask for, but at least my lecture was short!” He also had innumerable one-liners at the ready courtesy of Yogi Berra.

Aubrey was predeceased by his loving parents, Aubrey and Vilma “Sissy” Mason, and is survived by his wife: Sandi; children: Lara Mason, Stephanie Willinger (John), and Suzanne Bendick (Eric); his grandchildren: Isabella Wade, Talia Bendick, Jay Powell, and Jasper Bendick; and his siblings: Leslie Basten (David), Chip Mason, Alison Sigler (Stewart), and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends in the community.

A service will be held on March 1,2025 in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium, 1215 VES Road, Lynchburg, Virginia, at 1 PM with a reception to follow at Boonsboro Country Club.
