Audrey “Jean” Shoop Harris

Audrey Jean Harris, 90, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Harris, Jr., and by her son, Thomas C. Harris III. Born in Harrisburg, PA, to John and Viola Shoop, she was the youngest of three daughters.

Jean is survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Harris, of Midlothian, two granddaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Mike LeMay of Virginia Beach, and Jennifer and Jamie Raymond of Midlothian, in addition to three great-grandsons, Carter, Owen, and Caden Raymond. Also surviving are several nieces, great-nieces and nephews, among them a special niece and namesake, Audrey Jean Fredette, great-niece and god-daughter Laurie Jean Mackey and her husband Phil, and great-nephew Ricky Fredette.

A member of St. Mark\"™s United Methodist Church in Midlothian, VA, Mrs. Harris enjoyed reading, working puzzles, composing poetry and watching television, and she loved discussing religion, politics, and sports. She served in the Woman\"™s Army Corps during World War II as a chaplain\"™s assistant. While in the Army, she met and married her husband in Casablanca, North Africa, while he was serving in the Navy. Among other places, Jean worked at the Central Intelligence Agency.

A graveside service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford, Virginia, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, with Rev. David Bonney officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark\"™s United Methodist Church, 11551 Luck\"™s Lane, Midlothian, VA 23114, or to the Richmond Animal League, 11401 International Drive, Richmond, VA 23236.
