Audrey L. Webster saw her last sunset on Christmas Eve, 2016. She was born on October 29, 1926, to Albert Lee Guy and Beulah Doudna Guy in Guide Rock, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter as well as her older brother and sister.
Audrey loved growing up in the small town of Red Cloud, Nebraska, where she returned almost every summer while her parents were living. She graduated from Red Cloud High School and went on to Hastings College where she received a BA in Elementary Education with a minor in music. After living in several states, she came to Lynchburg in 1971 and called this home for the second 45 years of her life.
She retired after 17 years with Laurel Regional School and 10 years with Leggett Department Store as well as many summers working for Camp Meadowlark. Upon retirement she continued to be active, and many in the community benefitted from her kindness and generosity as she volunteered with the Literacy Program, Daily Bread, and the Lynchburg Public Library. For the past 30 years, she has knitted baby hats for Virginia Baptist Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Paul A. Webster and his wife, Lonnie Hoade, as well as her daughter, Connie J. Cox, all of Lynch burg. She also leaves to remember her, a sister-in-law, five nephews, a niece, as well as three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
“I was entirely happy. Perhaps we feel like that when we die and become a part of something entire, whether it is sun and air, or goodness and knowledge. At any rate, that is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.” –Willa Cather, My Ántonia.
