Barbara Haythe Burns

REMEMBERING BARBARA

Barbara Coriette Burns (Diana) as some called her was born November 17, 1947 to the late Mary and Robert Haythe She peacefully departed this life on May 9, 2024 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Barbara was educated at Dunbar High School where she was majorette along side her lifetime friend, Peggy Austin She dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age where she became a member of the 8th Street Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health began to decline.

Barbara began her career in the school system shortly after high school and became a Teacher. There she embedded a positive imprint on the lives of many children over the course of 30 years. She later retired and began to live her best life.

If we had one word to describe her it would be feisty? If you know, you know! To know her was to love her. Barbara was a diehard Steelers fan and even rushed home from church to make sure she didn't miss her team playing GO STEELERS!

Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Senior Chief Gregory L. Burns her brother Lacklan Haythe and her sister Rosemary Haythe.

Barbara is survived by one son Lawrence Burns (Malinda) of Fredericksburg, VA. One daughter-in-law, Carla Burns of Michigan. Six grandchildren: Deonta Hall First Class Petty Officer Jordan Burns, Julisa Graham, Captain Kendrick Laret, Gregory Burns Jr, and Ashley Burns. Two brothers George Haythe and Robert Haythe.

A devoted and lifelong friend, Peggy Austin and a very special friend, Marvin Smith.

 A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A special thanks to her nursing aide, Tracy Lemon and a special thanks to her hairstylist William Biglow who always kept her hair right.

 A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Eighth Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
