Barbara Drinkard Campbell, 77, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 8, 2016.
Born on December 4, 1938, in Campbell Co.; she was the daughter of the late Leonard A. “Pete” Drinkard and Mabel Webb Drinkard. She graduated as Valedictorian from Concord High School, Class of 1957. She went on to work for First Federal Savings and Loan, One Valley Bank, and retired from BB&T as Teller Supervisor in 1999.
Barbara was an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, and held many other offices.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
One of her greatest gifts in life was cooking for her family and others.
Barbara met the love of her life, James H. “Jimmy” Campbell Jr., in 1954, and was married May 25, 1957. During their 58 years of marriage, they had two children: R. Dale Campbell and his wife Kim, of Allwood, Va., and Beverley C. Whipkey and her husband Daryl, of Johnson City, Tenn. She was a loving grandmother to Christopher D. Campbell, of Gretna, Va., Michael W. Campbell and his wife Bre, of Huddleston, Va., and Emily A. Whipkey, of Johnson City, Tenn. Barbara is also survived by two great-granddaughters: Madison P. Campbell and Hailey D. Campbell; her sister, Gladys D. Harris, of Concord, Va., and several loving nieces, nephews and special friends.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday May 11, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Reverend Doug Pillow and the Reverend Kevin Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
