Barbara Mullis Helms, of Lynchburg, passed away on February 1, 2025. She was born on October 8, 1933, in Monroe, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John Clayton Mullis and Evelyn Elms Mullis. She was the wife of the late John Vann Helms.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Barbara was known for her unwavering dedication to her family and her tireless support of her husband, John Vann Helms, with whom she worked side by side at Hill City Tile Company for 52 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Helms; brother, William Mullis; and sister, Audrey Helms.
Barbara is survived by one son, John Helms (Gayle); three daughters, Patricia Nash (Mark), Nancy Dunn (J.C.), and Kathy Dowdy (Darrell); one daughter in law, Kathy Helms, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and a special friend, Francine Bryan.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Bentley Commons and Westminster Home Hospice for their care of Barbara.
A funeral service will be held at Heritage United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
