Barbra "Barbra Jean" A. Johnson transcended from her earthly abode to her heavenly sanctuary on Saturday, July 27th, 2024. Born in Amherst County on May 30th, 1947, she was the cherished daughter of the late Fred R. Anderson Sr. and Theresa Davenport Anderson.
Her departure was preceded by the loss of three brothers: Fred R. Anderson Jr., Albert C.
Anderson, and Donald R. Anderson; one sister, Laura A. Dillard; a beloved granddaughter, Ana'Rah Jean Johnson; her brother-in-law, Milton Dillard Sr.; and her grandparents, Tinsley and Elizabeth Davenport.
In holy matrimony, she was joined with the late Al J. Johnson, and from this union, their son Ralph D. Johnson (Natasha Haynes) was born.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her devoted sisters, Goldie "Penny" A. Young and Jackie Goins, both residing in Lynchburg, VA; four granddaughters: Ashley Pin of Greensboro, NC, Arieona Johnson, Nautica Haynes, and Nakeyta Haynes, all of Lynchburg, VA; and one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Outlaw. Additionally, she is survived by her devoted sisters-in-law, Ann Anderson and Anita Anderson, both of Lynchburg, VA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Barbra Jean received her foundational education in Amherst County, graduating from Central High School as part of the esteemed Class of 1965. Her academic journey continued at Phillips Business College, where she earned her credentials as a certified public accountant. Barbra Jean's professional career commenced at Imperial Reading, where she served as the head of the payroll department for an impressive 21 years until the company's closure. Subsequently, she brought her expertise to Old Dominion Job Corps, excelling as the supervisor of the records department until her well-deserved retirement.
A stalwart member of the Pride of Lynchburg Temple #81 and the Virginia State Association, she held distinguished titles such as PSP, PGDR District Deputy Emeritus, and was an active participant in the Daughter Rulers Council. Her spiritual life was equally vibrant, as she lent her melodious voice to the Echos of Joy at Rose Chapel Baptist Church until her health no longer permitted.
Barbra Jean was the quintessential mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend-a true gem whose vivacity and infectious laughter brought joy and spirit to all who knew her. She embodied the essence of living life to the fullest, consistently seeking and celebrating the happiness and goodness in the world around her.
