Barbara Ruth Carner

Barbara Ruth “Boggie” Ham Carner, 91, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Orrin and Hazel Hart Ham. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert “Bob” Lloyd Carner.

Ruth was born on July 22, 1931, in Lansing, North Carolina. She graduated from William Byrd High School in Vinton, VA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loving sister. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking, gardening, and spending time with family. She was an artist in all areas. She had a big heart for others and loved her family. She was a member of the DAR and the UDC. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was baptized and held her present membership at Mercy Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah “Debbie” Sue Dudney; grandchildren, Lauren Dudney Dalton, and husband Greg, Erin Jessica Bruce , and husband David, April Lynn Carner, and Tron Lloyd Carner; great grandchildren, Grant Anderson Dalton, Evie Joy Bruce, and Brielle Elora Bruce. She is also survived by brother Robert Orrin Ham, and sister Daisy Shirley Troutt and husband, Clint, as well as, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and numerous other loved ones.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Robert Samuel Carner; brothers, Denver Dale Ham and Ronald Willie “Bud” Ham, and sister, Betty Jo Ransom

An informal visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm with family receiving friends on Friday October 7, 2022, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:00 am at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, VA  with Pastor Bryan Rigg officiating.
