Barbara Sadler Davis

Barbara Sadler Davis, entered into eternal rest on August 2, 2022. She was born on Saturday, December 8, 1951, to the late Ernest Penn Sr. and Emma Sadler Brown. Barbara is also preceded in death by her stepfather James R. Brown and sister-in-law, Sharon Davis Linsenbigler.
Barbara was a loving wife of 43 years to her husband Martin E. Davis, Jr. In addition to her husband, Barbara leaves to cherish her memory loving sons, Aubrey Burford Sr. (Theresa) of Florida, Michael Davis of Lynchburg, Gerald Lewis (Satunya), Derek Davis, all from Texas, one daughter Felicia Davis of Texas; Eight grandchildren, Ciera Buford, Cayla Buford, Aubrey Buford, Chance Buford of Florida, Ava Davis of Lynchburg, Ajani Moore, Sloane Lewis and Loghan Lewis of Texas; one great-grandchild Chase James of Florida; her step-mother Mary E. Penn, five sisters, Jackie Brown, Machelle Berger (Terry), Tina Day (Barry) all from Lynchburg; Annette Thornhill and Valerie Rushing (Darren) both from North Carolina and two brothers Jamil A. Rashad of Waverly and Rev Ernest L. Penn (Ingrad) of Lynchburg; sisters-in-laws Clotiel Davis, Shunda Davis and Shirley Warren all from Texas; a devoted niece Ethel “Neasy” Holmes (Dion) and Nephew Dwayne Brown (Diana); a special Friend Sue Hyatt and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Barbara was educated in the Amherst County and Lynchburg Public School system, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1970. She retired from Central Virginia Training School after more than 40 years of service. She attended Lovingston Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed family gatherings, reading, shopping, gardening, spending time with her “Lunch Buddies”, and spreading the Gospel through songs with Amazing Grace Chorale and Infinite Praise.
A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, 12:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Forest Hill Burial Park. Barbara will lie in repose Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Thursday, August 11, 2022 and Friday, August 12, 2022 from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm and one hour prior to the service.
