Barbara Howerton Saunders, 84, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024.  She was the daughter of the late Everett and Lois Howerton.

 In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Duncan Saunders.

 Barbara was born on November 1, 1939, in Lynchburg, VA.  She graduated from EC Glass, then continued her education at Longwood College. 

 She was a life-long member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church and served in many ways throughout the years.  She was a member of the Episcopal Church Women’s group (ECW) and The Order of the Daughters of the King. She also enjoyed many hobbies such as making dolls for young children, sewing, gardening, ceramics, selling Avon and spending time with her family at Willow Lake. 

 Barbara is survived by her three sons, AD and his wife Kathy, Nicholas and his wife Angie, and Joseph and his wife Kerri.  She is also survived by six grandchildren: Tiffanie (Bryce) Ashmore and their three children, Lillia, Ella and Vivian; Bradley (Kara) Saunders and their two children, Opal and Pearl, Hunter Saunders, Peyton Saunders, Reid Saunders and Mitchell Saunders.  

 She is survived by siblings, Harriet (Dr. Prescott) Edmunds, Dr. Ben Howerton and Allan (Becky) Howerton.  Also left to cherish her memory is her niece, many nephews and friends that meant so much to her.  

 A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church with Rev. Alan B. Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 1021 New Hampshire Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
