Barbara Alma Walker Oliver, born on June 15, 1943, in Galax, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, in Lynchburg, Virginia, surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlin and Ethel Stewart Walker and her brother Elmer Campbell.
Barbara enjoyed a successful career as a plant manager in the garment industry. She dedicated her life to nurturing her children, firmly believing that her proudest accomplishment was her family, whom she cherished deeply.
In addition to her career, Barbara had a multitude of interests that reflected her vibrant personality. She loved cooking for her loved ones, sewing beautiful creations, and immersing herself in the joy of reading and drawing. Barbara had a green thumb like no other. Plants and nature flourished in her hands. She infused joy into those around her through laughter, dancing, affection, and an amazing sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Carroll Oliver; daughters, Tammy Maines, Taronna Maines and Donna Carnley and husband, James; grandchildren, Stelin Chestnutt, Jack Carnley, Lylah Chestnutt and Darcy Carnley and brother, Clayton Walker and wife, Sue.
A graveside service to honor Barbara will take place on May 15, 2025, at Cranberry Cemetery in Laurel Springs, North Carolina. The service will begin at 10:00 AM.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
