Barbara Stevenson Wise

June 30, 1945 — March 13, 2024

Barbara Stevenson Wise, also known as Barbara Ann Wise, and Nene by many was called home to Heaven at the young age of 78 years old. She departed from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital of Roanoke, Virginia at 9:37PM on Wednesday March 13th, 2024.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Charles Henry Stevenson, Sr. and Lois Catlett Stevenson.

She was born June 30th, 1945, in Covington, Virginia on a Saturday. She attended school at Covington High where she had decided later on to pursue her G.E.D at a program in Roanoke, Virginia.

Barbara had many jobs in her lifetime, but she loved some jobs so much she talked about them almost regularly. Such as her job as a show-woman at cat shows all over the US where she talked about and showed her beloved purebred cats, she won many competitions. She also loved her job as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The Matriarch of her family.

In her free time Barbara enjoyed a fun road trip, she so loved visiting family and friends.

Barbara loved playing and winning games of all kinds. Board games, card games, and lots of puzzles. Some games such as Monopoly, Yahtzee, Scrabble, UNO, Rummy, Spades, Solitary, Cross Words, Word Searches, 1000+ Piece Puzzles. She also loved movies, TV shows and reading the newspaper daily with brunch!

Barbara always appreciated a good BBQ cookout with friends and family, she loved eating out at all kinds of restaurants, loved her breads, butters and many sweets. Especially if it was with good company or with people she loved dearly!

Barbara is survived by many many many loved ones such as her daughters Jill McCulley and Kimberly Shreffler. Between the two of Barbara’s surviving daughters, she had 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She also had lots of grand pets who she had loved oh so very much.

Barbara had two siblings and between them she had many nieces and nephews. She always tried to be the best Aunt and Great Aunt she could be. She also had lots of cousins.

It saddens us that Barbara has left behind so many loved ones, family, friends, and pets for now. We are so thankful that she was so very blessed and loved in her life here on earth and she is already so truly missed.

In addition to her mom and dad - Charles Henry Stevenson, Sr. and Lois Catlett Stevenson, she was preceded in death by her brother Charles Henry Stevenson, Jr., her sister Lois Gale Jewel, a few children who had passed at birth, also other friends and loved ones. Such as her grandparents and her best friend of many years Joanne. May they all rest in peace!

A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If you would like to attend, please reach out to someone from Barbara’s family for more detail.
