Barney Wayne Seagle, 81, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on May 25, 2025. He was one of nine children, born on July 27, 1943, in Wytheville, VA.
Barney was preceded in death by his father, Walter Thomas Seagle and his mother, Bettie Bell Seagle; his brothers, Walter Seagle Jr, James Seagle, Harry Seagle and David Seagle; and his sisters, Katherine Davis, Elizabeth Rodgers, Edmona Brown, and Joann Price; and special friends, Charlie Harris and John Bruce, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Nannie (Nancy); and his daughters, Mary Tinsley (Edward) and Jeanie Griffis (Jeffrey), all from Lynchburg, VA; and his son, Tim Seagle (Lori) from Suffolk, VA; his grandchildren, Jason Marshall, Heather Marshall, Zachary Tinsley (Beka), Savannah Wilber (Alex), and Justin Griffis; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Marshall, Declan Tinsley, Brock Wilber, Tucker Wilber, and Fiona Tinsley; his brother and sister-in-laws, Joe Price, Patsy Crowell, Donnie Green (Vicki), Sue Riddle, Joyce Lawhorne (Preston), Faye Kovach (Jim), Brenda Haan (Greg), Jane Green, and Charlie Green as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Barney was retired from the beverage industry, starting out as a route salesman and moving up the ladder to General Manager. He worked at Sims Wholesale Company here in Lynchburg, Gwen Distributing in Marion, and Lawrence Distributing in Danville. He served as a former president of both the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association and Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a former Senior Warden. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed doting on all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barney never met a stranger and welcomed everyone into his home with open arms. He loved music and was a proud drummer in the award-winning George Wythe Marching Maroon Band. He also sang in the choir and starred as the Captain in his high school production of HMS Pinafore. He sang in church and was often called on stage to sing at conventions and other social events including singing the national anthem at the race track. Barney loved watching old westerns, especially John Wayne movies, and was a loyal Dallas Cowboy, Philadelphia Phillies, and Dale Earnhardt fan.
A service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
