Barry D. Mays

Barry Douglas Mays, 70 of Buena Vista passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Lynchburg, on March 1, 1952. The son of the late Oscar Leonard Mays and Dorothy Pearl Martin Smith. In addition to his parents Barry was preceded in death by his brother, Little Tommy Mays.

Barry was a very simple man. He was a graduate of Amherst High School. Barry worked as a plumber for many years for Harris Heating and later for Riddleberger Plumbing. Often, he could be found at Natural Bridge Speedway. He loved racing, enjoyed fishing in his free time and going to shooting matches.

Barry is survived by his two children, Doug Mays, Sr., and his wife, Mandy, and Tracy Mays Grant; three grandchildren, Doug Mays, Jr., Tristan Mays, and Haley Grant; two siblings, Larry Mays and his wife, Bonnie, and Debbie Waddell and her husband, Greg; one niece, Krystal Lotts and her husband, Anthony.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights. Per Barry’s request following cremation there may be a memorial service held at a later date. To send condolences in Barry’s memory please consider your charity of Choice.
