Benedict “B. J.” Kavanaugh, Jr.

Benedict Joseph, "BJ", Kavanaugh, Jr, 44, of Lynchburg, VA passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013.   He was born on October 5, 1969, in Lynchburg, VA.

He was a 1987 graduate of E. C. Glass High School and a graduate of Louisburg College and Old Dominion University.  He was Vice President of Sales in the Hospitality Department of Moore and Giles, Inc., and he was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

BJ lived life to its fullest and touched the lives of people all over the world.  He was a devoted and loving father and husband.  He was passionate about his family, friends, church and career. BJ had a tremendous affinity for music, travel, the ocean and coaching his sons\"™ soccer teams.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Walker Kavanaugh and two loving sons; Benedict Joseph Walker Kavanaugh and Carson Patrick Kavanaugh, his mother; Faye Foster Kavanaugh, sister; Kelly Barr, and her husband, Alan, in-laws; Robert and Judy Walker, sisters in-law; Renee Markey, her husband, Jim, Judith Hedgpeth, her husband Todd, and Amanda Walker, supportive cousins; Bobby Brooks and Peter Sackett. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of longtime friends. 

BJ was predeceased by his father, Benedict Joseph Kavanaugh, maternal grandparents; John E. Foster and Elizabeth P. Foster, and paternal grandparents; Frank P. Kavanaugh and Helen W. Kavanaugh.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 pm Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, Va.  A service celebrating BJ\"™s life will be held 11am Thursday, November 21, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lynchburg, Va with Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery with a reception following at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, The Friends of Campbell County Animal Control or Holy Cross Catholic Church.
