Benjamin Earl Clapp

Benjamin Earl Clapp, 81, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Mackie McCormick Clapp for 60 years. He was born in Evergreen on May 18, 1930 to the late John McHyne Clapp and Ruth Margaret Albright Tickle Clapp.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard E. Clapp, J. Allen Clapp, Enid M. Clapp, John M. Clapp and Hugh H. Clapp.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Denice D. Clapp, son, Clinton E. Clapp, M.D., five grandchildren, Adrienne Cruser, Meredith Clapp, Leslie Clapp, Devon Clapp and Nolan Clapp, brother, Daniel A. Clapp, and sister, Alice Clapp Martin.

Earl farmed in Evergreen until he joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning home he worked at Lynchburg Foundry and later the Woodman of the World Life Insurance Company where he retired as area manager 16 years ago.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dwight Oldham, M.D., Vicky Bailey, Hospice, RN, Patricia Holliman, CNA, Centra Hospice and friend, Juanita Harlow.

Friends are invited to join his family Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 12:30-1:30 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Earl\"™s life will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor John Franklin and R.B. Moore officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or a charity of your choice.
