Mr. Bernard Sterling Hancock, age 65 transitioned to be with the Lord Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, New York November 25, 1956, he was the son of the late Charles J. Hancock and Lorraine Richardson Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers Thomas Richardson Sr., Charles Hancock, Jr., Ronnie Hancock, Taft Hancock, Robert Hancock, and Douglas Hancock, two sisters Deborah L. Hancock and H. Marie Hancock Lindsay, one sister-in-law Twanda A. Jefferson, and his father-in-law Lenwood D. Jefferson, Sr.
Bernard was a graduate of E. C. Glass class of 1975 and attended Central Virginia Community College. He retired from Sentry Equipment and Erectors in Forest, Virginia and served his country in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged.
Bernard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-nine years Diane Jefferson Hancock, three sons Dwayne Jefferson of Lynchburg, VA, Bernard Hancock, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Patrick Hancock of Lynchburg, Virginia. He is also survived by one devoted grandson Jay’von A. Brown of Lynchburg, Virginia, two sisters Patricia H. Gwathmey of Lynchburg, VA and Brenda H. Crawford (John) of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, five granddaughters Zamyriah Brown of Bedford, VA, Nakya Jefferson of Lynchburg. Virginia, Nevaeh M. Barber, Anissa M. Barber and Corlia M. Barber of Charlotte, North Carolina, his mother in law Christine Jefferson of Rustburg, Virginia, two sisters in law Jeannie Jefferson of Rustburg, VA and Jacqueline M. Ferguson of Lynchburg, VA; two brothers in law Lenwood D. Jefferson, Jr. (Evelyn) and Michael Jefferson (Mabel) of Rustburg, VA, eight nieces, five nephews and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A going home service will be Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Tharp Funeral Home. A visitation will be held thirty minutes prior. The family will receive friends and family after the service at the home – 3101 Link Rd. #79 Lynchburg, VA 24503. MASKS ARE RQUIRED.
