Bernell Gooding Miller (“Bernie”), 88, of Lynchburg, entered his heavenly home on January 17, 2022. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Jenkins Miller for 30 years.
Born at home on February 4, 1933, in Beulaville, NC, he was a graduate of Beulaville High School, Wake Forest, and served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan.
Moving to Lynchburg in 1960, he began a banking career which spanned decades with United Virginia Bank and Crestar Bank. This led him to Roanoke where he retired in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ottis Miller and Nora Mercer Miller. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Naomi Dare Miller and brothers Ottis Jere Miller and Truman Miller.
He is survived by his son Anthony Bernie “Tony” Miller and wife Connie, daughter Kimberly Miller and son Bradford Miller and wife Cathy. Also surviving are grandchildren Nicole Miller, Matthew Miller, and Natalie Miller, sister Barbara Miller Ferguson of Decatur, GA, and brother Willie Miller and wife Carolyn of Beulaville, NC survive him.
He was an active member of Timberlake Christian Church where he recently enjoyed virtual services when he was unable to attend.

Services will be conducted by Paster Ben Moore on Friday, January 21 at 2:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Due to the immunocompromised state of family members, we are asking that everyone wear a mask.
