Bernice Bunn Decker

Bernice Bunn Decker, 95, a longtime resident of Portsmouth,VA, passed away at The Oaks of Lynchburg on Monday July 23, 2012. She was born on August 12, 1916, the youngest of ten children to John Council Bunn and Laura Porter Bunn in Newsoms, VA.

After marrying Clyde, her cherished husband of 70 years, she moved to Portsmouth. Bernice was very involved in the life of her community, her church, local schools and she often brought home blue ribbons from her garden club. She was always the life of the party at family gatherings and loved to make people laugh. Tiny and feisty, she once told her only child, Deanna, that she hoped when her children grew up, they would move to Japan so she would know how her mother felt that the granddaughters were either in New York or Germany. That did not stop her from visiting. She once stayed with them for five months.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanna Hester, and her husband Carl of Lynchburg; two granddaughters, Sara Michelle Nay and husband David of Monument, CO and Emily Grace Gambone and husband Anthony of Richmond, VA; Seven great-grandchildren, Kieran, Axel, Markus and Marya Nay and Mia, Lucas and Jonah Gambone.

A Celebration of Bernice\"™s Life will be held at a future date in Portsmouth, VA.
