Bernice Mayberry Calhoun, 92, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday , April 6, 2016.
Born in Madison Heights, May 6, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Glenn Mayberry and Myrtle Turner Mayberry. She is survived by her husband of 68 years C. Ray Calhoun.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son C.W. (Bill) Calhoun and his wife Linda, her grandson W. Garth Calhoun and his wife Erin, Great Grandson William Grady Calhoun, a sister Myrtle Mayberry Patterson, her Brother-in-law Lawrence W. Falwell and her sister-in-law Pauline Mayberry, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Essie Bryant, Virginia Clements, Mamie Freeman, Russell Mayberry, Paul Mayberry, Alfred Mayberry, Curtis Mayberry and J.B Mayberry.
She retired from Barker-Jennings Corp. and was a member of Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she served on numerous committees.
A celebration on Bernice’s life will be held at Memorial Christian Church 615 Perrymont Avenue, Saturday, April 9, 2016 a 1 p.m. with the Rev. Virgil and Sue Knipp officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the Alzheimer Association.
